Email marketing
Stay useful after the first enquiry with email marketing.
How relevant email campaigns can support consideration and repeat work when you have an appropriate audience and a clear purpose.
The useful bit
Email can help you continue a useful conversation with an appropriate audience. A relevant message and responsible contact-list handling matter more than sending to the largest possible list.
Give people a reason to hear from you
A customer who understands one of your services may not know about another. A practical update, genuine project story or timely explanation can keep that conversation going. For a specialist service business, an email might point a buyer towards an article that helps them plan a future project. Decide what the reader will gain before deciding what you want to promote.
Start with the audience you can appropriately contact
Check how contacts were collected, what they were told and whether marketing to them is permitted. UK rules differ by recipient type and circumstances; a business-related address alone does not resolve that question. Follow current ICO guidance, respect objections and make opting out straightforward. List suitability needs checking before a campaign, not after messages have been sent.
Match the message to the relationship
An existing customer, an active prospect and an unfamiliar contact do not need the same explanation. Use relevant service interests and accurate relationship information where available. Avoid implying that a recipient has requested something when they have not. Personalisation should make the message more useful, rather than adding details simply to create a false impression of familiarity.
Make the destination earn the click
An email should lead to a page that continues the same subject. If you introduce a service, link to its explanation. If you share a project, show the full story and a sensible next step. Check the links, sender identity and reply route before sending. An interested reader should be able to get a useful answer without being pushed into an unrelated offer.
Look beyond opens
Replies, relevant page visits, suitable enquiries and repeat work are more useful business signals than an open-rate headline alone. Review unsubscribes and customer feedback too. Owt's client work includes marketing email campaigns; the audience, platform, creative, review process and reporting for your business are agreed around your brief. Email is not a substitute for fixing an unclear service offer or an unsuitable contact list.
